An
artist is a conduit to the subliminal mind.
While in Lethbridge, where I received my Bachelor Of Fine
Arts Degree, a particular influence and guidance was found
with renowned artists Janet Cardiff and Jeff Spalding - their
differing styles led to unexpected insight into the creative
mind. Following school I spent many years searching for a
‘unique voice’ with which to fully explore my
creativity. Many unfulfilling attempts led me to 2005 where
the death of a very dear friend unwittingly opened the door
to that voice. The necessity of a death to trigger my inspiration
is something I struggle to deal with, in my life and in my
work. I’m striving with every piece to open a window
through which one can experience an emotional bonding; a visceral
intimacy if you will. I want to create work that speaks of
life and death and questions the meaning of our existence.
I feel, as an artist, my purpose is to challenge and explore
the sensibilities and, perhaps more importantly, the fallibilities
of the human condition. Therefore, my work is a furthering
of that indulgence.
The paintings with poems are from my ‘Consequence of
Life‘ series, which will continue through to 333 works.
The poems are specifically written for their respective paintings,
and meant to complement and enhance the experience of the
viewer.
Thanks for taking a look at my site and allowing me the privilege
of showing my work.
